The intersection of Ellis Avenue and Newland Street in Fountain Valley faced significant challenges, prompting the city's decision to close the street for almost a year. Hazardous conditions, marked by deteriorating material at various depths (eight feet, five feet, and three feet), posed a threat to traffic safety. Commuters experienced frustration due to the prolonged closure, traffic congestion, and the availability of only one open lane. Initial Approach: In response to these challenges, the city's initial approach involved an extensive excavation method. The plan was to dig down to 10 feet, remove and replace the compromised material, introduce high-quality soil, compact it, and then relay the surfaces. Recognizing the potential drawbacks and high costs associated with the traditional excavation approach, Saber proposed an alternative solution – the Polylevel system. This eco-friendly system offered a more efficient and cost-effective method compared to the extensive excavation initially planned. Innovative Solution: Recognizing the potential drawbacks and high costs associated with the traditional excavation approach, Saber proposed an alternative solution – the Polylevel system. This eco-friendly system offered a more efficient and cost-effective method compared to the extensive excavation initially planned. Benefits of Polylevel System: The Polylevel system, injected beneath the surfaces, proved to be environmentally friendly and inert. It addressed the voids caused by displaced dirt, eliminating the need for complete concrete replacement. Repairing the existing concrete with the Polylevel system became a sustainable and cost-effective solution, as it cured quickly and demonstrated UV resistance. Project Timelines and Soil Densification: Implementing the Polylevel system significantly reduced the project timeline to just four and a half days, in contrast to the anticipated four weeks with the excavation method. Saber's meticulous grid plan, controlling injection volume through a counter system, contributed to the project's goal of soil densification at depth. Considerations for Asphalt Injections: Understanding the pliability of asphalt, Saber strategically utilized a four-pound poly product for commercial projects, providing tested capacity and optimal compression for varying loads. Project Finalization and Community Satisfaction: String lines were strategically employed to meticulously ensure the straightness of the profile, and a thorough survey was conducted to confirm elevations. Notably, the project involved a significant adjustment in the gutter height, which was initially observed to be four and a half inches low. Through precise interventions, Saber successfully aligned the gutter to be only a quarter of an inch low, achieving the desired specifications. The project was deemed highly successful, garnering praise and positive feedback from both the community and city officials. The responsiveness to the initial issue and the skillful correction further underscored the effectiveness of Saber's approach, solidifying the project's success in meeting the expectations of all stakeholders involved. In summary, Saber's innovative use of the Polylevel system effectively addressed challenges, providing efficient and cost-effective solutions to the infrastructure concerns at the intersection of Ellis Avenue and Newland Street.Saber Lifts and Levels Main Street in Fountain Valley
