Crawlspace moisture removal
Challenge
A homeowner in San Diego, California, began to notice a mildewy moldy smell throughout the home. He knew the smell must be coming from somewhere, he called several experts and found the he had a moisture issue in the crawl space of the home. There was standing water throughout the crawlspace, which was causing the smell to creep into the home. The homeowner did not only want the water to be removed, but wanted to keep it out for good. He was worried about the health risks involved with letting the water continue to sit, or the cost of have the water removed each time it came back.
Solution
Saber Geotechnical Construction Solutions remedied the homeowner’s problem by installing CleanSpace Encapsulation in the crawlspace. The crawl space had standing water that needed to be removed before the installation of the CleanSpace could begin. The crew had to regard the crawl space for proper drainage of the water, and then they need to dry out the crawl space. A drainage exit line was installed to remove the water. The crawlspace was then prepped for the CleanSpace encapsulation. First the crew lined the crawl space with a dimpled membrane which sets under the CleanSpace liners and allows water to flow freely to the sump in the crawl space. The crew also installed a new Smart Pump, which is specially designed for crawl spaces, the SmartPump pumps water out of the crawl space automatically. The crawl space was then lined with 1707 square feet of CleanSpace lining. An ever last door, a snug fitting, all plastic door which stops air and moisture from entering the area, was installed. As well as (13) vent covers installed around the property replacing the old vents which actually let in air in moisture and caused the crawl space to have issues to start. The homeowner now has a nice clean crawl space which he can use for extra storage, and he also can now rest easy knowing that the once standing water that could have caused some major health concerns to him or his family, are no remedied and are no longer an issue.
