Smart Jacks fix a foundation.
Challenge
A home in Poway, California had suffered from bowing walls and sagging floors due to settlement. The property owners observed a single-story framed structure built in the mid 1970’s with noticeable settlement in the homes foundation. With the recent drought effecting most of Southern California, it is cause for concern to many home owners with older homes, because of the expanding and shrinking clay soils that these homes were built on. The damage was beyond repairable.
Solution
Saber Geotechnical Construction Solutions was able to rebuild and restore the homes foundation back to it’s original condition. Saber installed (5) six SmartJacks around the foundation. SmartJacks are steel support systems used to stabilize and level the girders and floor joists in a crawl space. This system has been tested to support loads of more than 60,000 lbs, making it ideal for stabilizing properties with sagging floors, and any walls sitting atop of the floor, plus any additional loads from the home. The 5 SmartJacks were installed to replace the lost support on the beams of the home. Saber then formed and poured new footings blocks and added the smart jacks around the base of the home. The Saber crew was able to install the (5) SmartJacks in just a few short days. After the installation of the SmartJacks, the residence was restored back to its proper positioning. The lawn and landscaping around the home were left in excellent condition. Overall, the homeowners were extremely pleased with the results as well as the efficiency and cleanliness of the Saber team. They couldn’t believe that such major damage could be repaired so well.
