Seawall Repair Restores Safety to Capistrano Beach Home
Challenge
A 50-year-old failing seawall at a home in Capistrano Beach has been restored to safety after Saber Foundation Repair conducted an analysis and implemented a series of fixes.
The seawall in the backyard of the home had started to lean toward the ocean. The homeowner said rain appeared to make the problem worse.
The purpose of the seawall is to protect the home from ocean activities, such as waves and tides. However, the seawall was becoming more dangerous the future damage it sustained.
Saber's trained seawall diagnostics specialist determined the 14-foot wall was bowing outward as a result of hydrostatic pressure on the wall - meaning the saturated soil on the back side of the wall was pushing on the wall and tipping it toward the ocean.
Solution
The specialist determined that a series of strategically placed helical anchors would stabilize the wall and wall plates at the most vulnerable points of the seawall would support the structure.
Through these fixes, Saber's construction crews rotated the wall several degrees back toward it's original position.
